The 16-year-old boy was found dead in his bed, investigators said.
A mother accused of killing her son shot him several times as he slept, then stabbed him as he cried out in agony, Missouri authorities say.
Krista Roy is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action after her son’s body was discovered in his St. Charles home Sept. 29, according to a probable cause statement.
Her child — who KSDK and KMOV reported is a 16-year-old boy — had been shot and stabbed multiple times, the St. Charles Police Department said.
Officers had conducted a welfare check at the home and found a bloody knife next to the victim’s bed, according to police. Friends of the victim said he was not suicidal and “loved life.”
Roy, police said, had been brought to a hospital earlier in the day Sept. 29 after an alleged suicide attempt. She was taken into custody after her release.
She admitted to killing her son, telling investigators she shot the 16-year-old as he slept, according to the court documents.
“Roy further confessed to lying in the bed with the victim, caressing him and hearing the victim cry out ‘Mommy’ several times,” police said.
To put the boy “out of his pain,” Roy then retrieved a kitchen knife and stabbed her son, killing him, according to the probable cause statement.
Investigators said Roy told them she used a Bersa .380 to shoot her son, and the gun was later found in her ex-husband’s home.
She is being held in jail on a $1 million bond, court records show.
St. Charles is about a 25-mile drive northwest from St. Louis.
