By Brett Weinstein and Heather Haying. New York: Portfolio, 2021.
Just because one has a lot of conflicting views with someone doesn't mean they may not also agree with them on many things.
From an evolutionary perspective, the authors, who are biologists as well as being a couple and parents of two sons, discuss how our world of hypernovelty, as they term it, is affecting human beings, how we should look at various aspects of society and being human, and what we can do about the unhealthful aspects of contemporary times. This book takes on everything from food to gender to parenting and more. The end of each applicable chapter also contains a list of proposed changes and solutions.
Though as a Christian I do not believe in evolution, I agreed with a lot of the underlying statements the authors made, the conclusions to which their research led and could support a lot of solutions they came up with as well. Though I didn't agree with all of them either, a lot of their conclusions, I think, accord with God and His Word at a certain level at least and, most importantly for any book, this tome contains a lot that makes the reader think.
