At least 40,000 lbs. of ribeye steaks were scorched when the vehicle transporting them went up in flames in Missouri.
On the morning of Monday, Aug. 18, the Doolittle Rural Fire Protection District responded to reports of a tractor-trailer fire on Route 174 eastbound, the fire department said in a Facebook post.
Footage from the scene shows the vehicle fully engulfed in flames after pulling over to the side of the highway. Firefighters rushed to put out the blaze before it could spread.
“The trailer was packed with 40,000 pounds of ribeye steaks,” the Doolittle Rural Fire Protection District wrote on Facebook. “Unfortunately, they are all a total loss.”
The Doolittle Rural Fire Protection District revealed that the incident was probationary firefighter Jenna Ulrich’s first fire and that she tackled it alongside her firefighter father, Glenn Ulrich.
The fire department shared a photo of Jenna using a hose to fight the huge blaze.
“Nothing says ‘welcome to the fire service’ like sending the probie to put out 40,000 pounds of flaming ribeye!” the Doolittle Rural Fire Protection District captioned the photo on Facebook.
“Probationary Firefighter Jenna Ulrich is the only vegan on our department —so naturally, her very first fire involved a tractor-trailer carrying 40,000 pounds of ribeye steak π π π π π,” the caption concluded.
Fire Chief Brandon Williams spoke about the possible cause of the fire in a statement obtained by PEOPLE.
"After a brief investigation, we believe that the tractor-trailer blew a tire and the driver continued driving on it until the tire caught fire," Williams said.
The fire department confirmed it was their eighth vehicle fire in just three weeks.
Both eastbound lanes of the highway had to be closed while the fire was being put out, ABC News and USA Today reported. No injuries were reported following the incident.
The Doolittle Rural Fire Protection District did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on Friday, Aug. 22.
