Wedding Guest Baffled by Bride's Strict 'Sniff Check' Policy

A bride-to-be plans on enforcing a strict "sniff check" at her upcoming wedding.

In a post on Reddit's "Bridezillas" forum, one of the bride's friends shared their disbelief over the wedding policy. The individual explained that it wasn't until all guests RSVP'd to the wedding that the bride sent them a list of "wedding rules" to follow.

"No one is allowed to wear perfume or scented lotion, because she wants her custom wedding scent to be the only thing people smell that day," the guest wrote.

It's an increasing trend for couples to get a custom wedding perfume in order to capture the essence of their big day. Because scent is strongly tied to memory and emotion, the personalized fragrance serves as a tangible keepsake and reminder of the wedding celebration. However, this unique sensory experience doesn't traditionally extend to guests.

The Redditor "thought it was a joke" when the bride told her friends and family members that "she was dead serious" that guests wear no scents or that they change their usual perfume and cologne to the custom wedding one.

"She even said she’d have someone 'sniff check' at the door to make sure," the guest said. "Honestly, I’ve never seen someone so controlling over the tiniest details."

In the comments section, Reddit users agreed that the bride's perfume demand and sniff test is too "controlling."

"Just nonsense," one person commented, with another individual writing, "Normalize calling out bridezillas. It’s a wedding. They aren’t being crowned queen of the world."

Some Redditors suggested that the poster change their RSVP to "no." A few people even went as far as suggesting the OP (original poster) wear different unsavory scents, such as animal urine and repellent spray, if they still attend the wedding in order to see what happens if they fail the "sniff check."

Other commenters pointed out that some guests may not be able to wear or be near perfume at all due to allergies or migraines triggered by strong scents.
