A 36-year-old woman was sleeping when their sibling repeatedly stabbed them with a knife inside a Pennsylvania home, police say.
Officers responded to a call about a stabbing at the residence in Reading at about 2:40 a.m. Monday, June 2, Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release.
Police say they found a woman in a bedroom with life-threatening injuries — nine stab wounds to her head, neck and torso — and she was taken to a hospital by ambulance. An update on her condition was not provided.
The woman’s sibling, 25-year-old Eli Skyrm, also lived at the home and was “located inside the residence along with a kitchen knife,” police said.
According to investigators, Skyrm’s brother was “listening to music” in a first floor bedroom when he heard “desperate” screaming from upstairs, the Reading Eagle reported.
He went to investigate and saw Skyrm on top of their sister, the outlet reported, and it looked like they were punching her, the brother told police. He ran Skyrm out of the bedroom, but it wasn’t until switching on the lights that he saw a “concerning amount of blood,” according to officials.
In an interview with police, Skyrm blamed the sister for causing a breakup and told investigators, “I can’t even think of her as my sister. I think of her as pure evil,” the Eagle reported.
Skyrm was arrested on charges of attempted homicide and aggravated assault, police said.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 11, records show.
Reading is a roughly 60-mile drive northwest from Philadelphia.
