TSCHIFFELY'S RIDE: 10 THOUSAND MILES IN THE SADDLE FROM SOUTHERN CROSS TO POLE STAR

By Aime Tschiffely. New York: Skyhorse Books, 2013.

One of the most thrilling true life adventures I've ever read.

In 1927, Swiss schoolteacher A. F. Tschiffely set out to ride from Argentina to New York on Argintine horses and did so, well as far as Washington, D.C. at least. This book, first published in 1933, chronicles that journey.

"Tschiffely's Ride" is so full of adventure that you could read the book five times and not pick up on everything.

Though the author's own ideas and prejudices are I suppose unavoidably reflected, this account remains an invaluable collection of snapshots of a myriad of places late in the third decade of the last century and the author's wry humour and indomitable spirit don't hinder one's enjoyment of his story, either..
