SPIDER-MAN II IS HUMANIST

Here's the clip of Aunt May's speech, probably one of the most memorable parts of the movie.

However, that speech and that movie promote humanism: that is, the idea that, if we just look inside ourselves, everybody has it within them to step up and do the right thing by humanity, the planet, etc. Thus, if everybody did this, we would have a perfect, or at least near-perfect world.

In reality, nothing could be further from the truth. History and current events show time and again humanity can not get it together, and why would we expect them to next time or the next or the next.

The reason for this is human beings are fallen, sinful creatures. Some of us want to make the world a worse place, or even the worst place it can possibly be for everyone else but ourselves. Others simply don't care how much better or worse the world gets as long as its getting worse doesn't effect their quality of life. Still others would like to live by secular humanism's philosophy but are just unable to, no matter how hard they try.

This is why the world needed a Saviour and why that Saviour had to be God Himself come to Earth in human form. Jesus Christ was the only One who could offer the perfect sacrifice for humanity's sins. You can't wash your dishes with a dirty dishcloth and Jesus, so to speak, was the only clean dishcloth in the universe.

Rather than continuing to follow in the futility of humanism, turn to Jesus Christ and live for Him. Acts 2 38
