HERE'S THE DEAL: DON'T TOUCH ME

By Howie Mandel and Josh Young. New York: Bantam, 2009.

I can't believe I liked this enough to review it.

What with Canada's huge inferiority complex, anyone Canadian who is at all successful is made very much of. Having heard of but never even seen one second of "St. Elsewhere", I was unaware the author starred on that show. In fact, my knowledge of Mandel did not begin until I saw "Bobby's World" which ran weekday mornings on Global before that network stopped airing cartoons.

Having said all that, I enjoyed reading this book, laughing out loud at certain points. It is full of stories, both show business and personal, and is also a well-written autobiography of somebody who has overcome and is still overcoming a lot. If a book can make one gain more respect for someone, that book has definitely accomplish                                                    ed something, and "Here's the Deal" certainly does this.

Purchase it here, or, in the spirit of Howie Mandel, just request an updated copy from the comedian's website. He will gladly mail you one in a three ring binder, including a customised afterword answering whatever highly personal questions you have for him.
