TV-RELATED STUFF: CRUMMY SITCOMS OF THE PAST WITH ONE EXCEPTION

Watched an episode of "Open House", the 1989 sitcom starring Ellen DeGeneris. It had some sort of funny lines, but many of the plot elements were ridiculous. I can't suspend my belief enough to think that, even within the universe of this show, adults would act this way.

Watched an episode of the 1990 sitcom(adapted from the film) "Working Girl" starring Sandra Bullock. Not funny at all and the theme song was the most overwrought thing I've come across in a while.

Watched two episodes of the 2003 sitcom "The Pitts." For one thing, the creators seemed to be of a school of thought that said, "We've got a cool theme song,* therefore we don't need it to be funny." Also, a family sitcom and the supernatural really don't mix.

Incidentally, "Mr. Personality" hosted by Monica Lweinsky. I'm glad I either forgot it or hopefully may never have heard of this show.

*Nowadays, TV shows don't even have that.

Julie Brown the Show: Way to build an entire episode on an ethnic stereotype.

Jackee: There were a few funny lines, plus it had Will Smith in it. Overall, though, this pilot was pretty awful.

Jenny (1997, starring Jenny McCarthy) s1 e 1 (not that there was a second season): Loved the bit where she dramatically reads the stage direction. Other than that, the rest of this episode was decidedly unfunny.

Just Shoot Me! s 2 e 2 (The Assistant): I remember this show when it was on but never got into it, partly because I didn't understand what it was about. Now, I do know what it's about, but it's still boring. Though I was happy to see Larry Miller in something, and he did a good job, this show is still unappealing.

Part of the massive failure that was NBC's Must See Tuesdays.

Jenny s 1 e 2 (A Girl's Gotta Pierce): A few more funny lines in this one, especially the bits with her late father singing.

Actually, people in small towns had piercings back then.

Working (starring Fred Savage) s 1 e 1: This was a funny show and kind of prefigures "The Office" if the latter had been more from the employee's perspective.

I didn't know NBC also had a Must See Wednesday!

Jenny s 1 e 3 (A Girl's Gotta Work): By this point, the writers had apparently decided on giving the black guy all the funny lines.

Admittedly, some good sight gags in this one.

Suddenly Susan s 2 e 4 (Next Stop Heaven): This was another one of those shows I was aware of when it was on but had no clue what it was about.

The wrong funeral part was funny, but the rest of this episode was the opposite.

Jenny s 1 e 4 (A Girl's Gotta Spike): True to crummy sitcom form, there has been no mention of Jenny being an athlete until this episode, but we're supposed to believe she's excellent at volleyball.

Suddenly Susan s 2 e 6 (It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Maddie World): The group therapy part was funny.

Suddenly Susan s 2 e 8 (One Last Kiss Before Dying ... On Stage): At least they didn't make Luis a complete doult.

Fired Up s 2 e 8 (In Your Dreams): Didn't think I would find a sitcom worse than the ones already discussed, but I did.
