LIFE 100.3 RESPONDS TO SCHOOLBOARD'S STANCE

My comments are in parenthesis.

LIFE 100.3’s new billboards are stopping traffic in Barrie. In the wake of the Simcoe County District School Board’s decision to remove references to Judeo-Christian
values from its moral code, LIFE 100.3 wanted to respond. (Nothing can be Judeo-Christian. It’s kind of like talking about a virgin whore.)

LIFE 100.3 bought six billboard locations throughout Barrie with the message “No Jesus in Barrie Public Schools? We have Jesus on the Radio.” (Yes, get some shameless self-promotion in there.) LIFE 100.3’s
Breakfast Club hosted a call in show and was flooded with calls from listeners with their response to the decision.

Morning show host Ben Davy said, “With all the challenges that students and teachers already face in our public schools, to think that the Simcoe County
District School Board would take the initiative to remove references to Judeo-Christian values from it's moral code is a shock. (Why would it be a shock? Remove the values, the situation at the schools gets worse, the schoolboard gets to put in more rules and throw more of its weight around, which is what it wanted all along.) It's not about forcing
a religion on people. (Why shouldn’t we force our religion on people, you wimp? This is our country, founded on Christian principles. If people don’t like that, they can leave.) When we look at the teachings of Christ, we see 'Love your neighbour as yourself, turn the other cheek, forgive and you will be forgiven'...Are
these not values we want to install in all of our children - religious or otherwise? (First of all, that should be instill. Second, you and many parents may want to INSTILL these values in your children, but did you ever think that maybe the schoolboard doesn’t?) These are values that are not exclusive to Christianity - they are
consistent with nearly every faith group, and even among the many who hold no religious views at all." (How do you know that? Have you studied other religions. Haven’t you figured out that it’s not about what you or any of the parents want? It’s about what the people in control want. If they can remove references to Christian moral values, then they will be able to bring order out of the chaos that ensues.)

The May 10 issue of Maclean's has an article about white people being evicted from the Kanawake reserve. This is typical. The Natives like to talk about how loving and tolerant they are, then they do something like this.

In the same issue, there is an article about children with really low vision not being taught braille in school. All children who are going to lose their remaining vision by adulthood should be taught braille. Without it, they will be totally illiterate.

The May 24 issue of Maclean's has an article about a drug shortage in Saskatchewan due to regulations. I wonder how many fewer deaths from prescription drugs there has been since the drug shortage began.

ANOTHER ROMANCE

A while ago I wrote about my brief romance with Jane Fugar, a Rwandan woman who sent me an email one day. Well, now there's another woman in my life.

I am on a dating site for the first time in my life and hardly I can tell what exactly sparked my interest in your profile. I do not think that any profile
is able precisely to define all qualities and all depth of the soul of the person you are looking for. But you were what I wanted to write. I'm lonely,
single, 32 years old woman. There's nothing wrong with me, but I can't expect to find the men of my dreams in a bar or at a club. Those places are for
superficial people whose only judgment upon you is based on appearance and not the content of their character. I have lost many close people in my life,

MARION'S ATTIC GOING OFF THE AIR

Yesterday, radio host Marion Webster announced she would cease broadcasting her program "Marion's Attic" October 31.

Marion Webster said the decision was due to financial reasons, aging equipment and the fact she was getting older.

It's kind of sad to see Marion's Attic go. She hasn't been in the best of health
for years. For most of the show's run, Kristena, her homecare worker has had to do the show with her. Many of the records she plays are available on the internet, anyway. Still, this program was an important part of my musical education and Marion will definitely be missed.

Marion Webster began broadcasting on Wbcq in September 1999. In 2000, Marion's Attic moved from Tuesday afternoons and expanded from half an hour to an hour. It has had a few different time slots since then. Currently the show can be heard Sunday afternoons at 5:00.

In the February issue of Readers Digest there is an article about cynistesia, a condition where people perceive letters as colours, proper names as tastes and tastes as images. Scientists think it is something all children go through. Their senses become intertwined for a brief time when they're little. I can remember when I was little I perceived both the days of the week and numbers as objects. Cynistesia does not negatively affect the lives of the people who have it. You watch, though. They're going to come out with a drug for it. You'll see commercials on TV acting like it's a horrible condition and a really big deal.

The February 22 issue of Maclean's has an itim about a mentally challenged, biracial homosexual teenage boy in Washington state whose principal refused to let him join the school's cheerleading team. Now I've heard everything!

In the same issue, the Books section has a review of "Lonely" by Emily White. I've often thought that some of the most extroverted people you meet are actually really lonely.

The January/February issue of Canadian Geographic has an article about life at an Arctic research station. Who thought nerds could party so hard.

The same issue has an article about where the mercury in the arctic goes during the warmer months. I'd love to know what the rates of autism are like up there.

THE BRIDGE

This show is just too gritty.

UCB CANADA SUCKS

I'm not sure whether I've written about this on here before, so I will write about it now.

The radio entity known as UCB Canada sucks.

When they first came on the air in Belleville in 2003, I was so excited. I thought, "Finally we're going to hear things from a Christian point of view and this station will win so many people to the Lord." However, nearly seven years on, I'm here to say that UCB Canada is horrible.

First and most importantly, they don't do anything to confront the problems of the local community. They just have a bunch of American preachers on there who mostly just talk about grace and love all the time. They don't have any local preachers on there crying out against the most prevalent sins in Belleville and the surrounding area. They should at least have round table discussions about these kinds of issues. For instance, I hear Wica is big in Belleville. Why not have a dialogue between a local pastor and a Wiccin priestess about why Wica is wrong.

The second reason UCB is so terrible is very similar to the first. They don't have any local preachers or even really any Canadian preachers on their station: just a bunch of big-time American preachers, as I said before.

Third, their news coverage stinks. Not only do they not have local news, but the newsfeed they do have is horribly biased. It is all this "let Israel blow all the Arab nations off the map, let's permanently ban from the airwaves anyone who says anything off-colour, George W. Bush is the greatest politician there's ever been, etc. etc." They supported Fred Thomson in the 2008 election, for cripes sakes! Yeah, the station in Chatam-Kent will sure win over Detroit's large Moslem population with news coverage like that.

The music is all laid-back ballads with not enough emphasis placed on big-time Christian artists.

Oh well, at least The Edge is gone. That's one good thing.
