A second grade teacher is going viral for the marriage advice she received from her students.
Klarissa Trevino, 26, tells PEOPLE that she always knew she wanted to do something to get her students involved in her wedding. When she came across the idea of having her kids write out their best piece of marriage advice, she couldn't wait to see their responses.
"I have seen other teachers do the 'guess the dress activity,' but I wanted something all my students could do. So I began digging for something quick to do before spring break," she says. "We did this on a day we had a school-wide event, so I didn’t take up any actual instructional time, which was perfect! "
"As a teacher, it’s important to really build strong relationships with your students, and I was able to see how amazing our classroom bond was," she explains.
For the activity, Trevino printed out worksheets with the prompt "The marriage advice I give my teacher is..."
"My students LOVED it. It was so bittersweet having them get so excited to be involved," Trevino says. "All of my students were talking and sharing advice they would give based on what they have seen or heard. It was amazing to see how innocent kids are and their vision of what LOVE is."
"Being able to get a glimpse of their version of marriage and love was very sweet. It made me so happy that they have homes that have shown them the true meaning of it," she adds.
Some of Trevino's favorite responses, which she's shared in a now-viral TikTok, include, "'Do not eat each other’s snacks,' 'Be kind and love each other',' 'You should go to a fancy restaurant then go home or get a pastry' and 'Take her on a date and go to a five star restaurant.' My students are going places!"
Trevino, who has been teaching second grade for three years, says her students knew that she was getting married and had been "constantly asking about when."
"When I told them it was over spring break and that the day was finally arriving, they were very excited, asking all the questions!" she recalls.
Trevino says she only thought her video would reach her friends, and was "very surprised" by how fast the clip actually took off.
"It was just too precious not to share. I was actually very surprised with the reaction it got on TikTok and the amount of people that supported it and adored it," she says. "These babies are 7 to 8 years old and were giving some amazing advice for their age."
