You celebrate the Winter Solstice instead of Christmas. In their celebration of Christmas, my fellow Christians are essentially doing the same thing: you're just more honest about it.
However, this does not negate the fact that the point of the spiritual part of mankind is not to worship the things that have been created, such as the sun, but rather to worship the One who created them, namely the Lord God and His Son Jesus Christ. Why worship the stuff, even the stuff of nature, when you can worship He who made all that stuff in the first place?
Also, (since its probably still out there somewhere even in 2024), Mary was not raped by God, as your friend opined. Read the first chapter of Luke if you don't believe me. As a former Catholic, reading this chapter of God's Word would be a good thing to do anyway.
