This aircheck is interesting not only because it is from the eighties, not only because it contains the sound of the famous English landmark clock and not only because it is from New Year's, but for a few other reasons as well.
First, the fact the people on this broadcast were talking about new plays such as "Les Miserables."
Second, because I didn't know a travisty of a word like athleticism was being used in 1986, on the BBC no less!
Third, because the religious editor had the final word for 1986, reading a Christian poem and praying in the name of Jesus Christ. Does such a thing happen on the BBC today?
Fourth, because of the news item about South Africa's white population possibly voting in an early general election.
