Patton Middle School in McMinnville, Oregon, went on high alert when someone spotted a hand grenade on school grounds.
The grenade was spotted by the school's running track. Patton administration called the police and secured all of the students inside the school while the police investigated.
The McMinnville Police Department called in the Oregon State Police bomb squad, which flew a drone over the hand grenade to get a better idea what they were dealing with.
And that's when they realized it wasn't a hand grenade at all.
It was a Bad Dog Gang "tactical" poop-bag dispenser complete with a metal carabiner.
McMinnville superintendent Laurie Fry said in a statement:
In an abundance of caution, school staff notified teachers who may have taken students outside during this time to remain indoors. McMinnville PD responded promptly, and quickly realized the device was not real. There was no direct threat to students.
Well, no threat to them yet.
Somewhere, out there, there is a man walking his dog (yes, I'm a assuming a man bought this item), and when the moment comes, he's going to realize that his tactical poop bag holder has fallen off its metal carabiner.
When that happens those kids are going to have to learn an important life skill: How to scrape the treads of their tennis shoes with a stick.
