TO CONQUER THE AIR: THE WRIGHT BROTHERS AND THE GREAT RACE FOR FLIGHT

By James Tobin. New York: The Free Press, 2003.

An enjoyable and obvious read.

When I first came across "To Conquer the Air", I could not believe I had never read the story of the Wright brothers inventing the airplane before. This book thoroughly and excellently tells this story, also recounting the efforts of others in the invention of manned flight, whether they were partners or rivals of the Dayton siblings.

The only drawback to this book, if it is one, is all the technical details. These are, of course, necessary to properly relate the process of events, but they can make for a bit of tough going for someone for whom such things are not their forte. Still well worth reading, though.

Purchase it here.
