By Alfred Lansing. London: Hodder & Stoughton, 1959.
Erudite and immensely readable.
This book tells of famed explorer Ernest Shackleton's unsuccessful (to say the least) attempt to be the first man to transverse Antarctica. Along the way, Shackleton's titular vessel broke up in the ice. This is the story of the voyage, from the idea and planning stage to rescue.
"Endurance" just flows so well and I was surprised how few days it took me to read.
Purchase it here.
