KNOW YOUR HERITAGE: PROFILE IN PATRIOTISM

“No King but King Jesus”

In case you missed it, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas recently declared the phrase “Christ is King” to be anti-Semitic. That’s right…according to Ted Cruz, if you believe Christ is King, or even worse, say it out loud; you hate the Jewish people. I wish I could say that I’m over-exaggerating, but I’m not.

Senator Cruz went into great detail and spent a lot of time in the weeds in an effort to prove his point. The results were painful to watch but pointed out perfectly where the majority of America’s elected body stands today.

Over the last several months, any doubts as to which country’s government Senator Cruz’s fidelity lies should have become painfully obvious. I will give you a hint…it’s not America. This should not come as a surprise given the fact that Ted Cruz was born in Canada to a Cuban communist guerilla. In fact, Ted Cruz did not renounce his Canadian Citizenship until 2014 when he was 44 years old.

Maybe this is why Senator Cruz is confused about “Christ is King.” He sees it as anti-Semitic, where a descendant of the founding generation (European settlers), see it as a rallying cry that helped to win a war for independence. Ted Cruz’s lack of American parentage or roots may explain his ignorance as to what the founding Americans thought on the subject. Let’s take a look at what they had to say.

Our Pilgrim forefathers never tired of mentioning and praising Jesus’ name. Read this quote from the Old South Leaflets written on September 26, 1637, concerning the rules and precepts of Harvard College: “Let every student be plainly instructed, and earnestly pressed to consider well, the main end of his life and his studies is to know God and Jesus Christ which is eternal life (John 17:3) and therefore to lay Christ in the bottom as the only foundation of sound knowledge and learning.”

By the way…Ted Cruz graduated from Harvard Law School. My how times have changed!

Our Founding Fathers never tired of mentioning and praising His Name. Patrick Henry declared: “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”

Just before the Revolutionary War, one of the Crown-appointed governors wrote back to England of the condition of the colonists and their resolve to fight: “If you ask an American, who is his master? He will tell you he has none, nor any governor but Jesus Christ.” The war cry that spread throughout the thirteen colonies still resounds to this day: “No King but King Jesus!”

John Quincy Adams, the 6th President of the United States, said, “In the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior. The Declaration of Independence laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity.”

John Quincy Adams’ father, John Adams, 2ndPresident of the United States said, “We Recognize No Sovereign but God, and no King but Jesus!”

Samuel Adams, known as the “Father of the American Revolution,” expressed the following: “I conceive we cannot better express ourselves than by humbly supplicating the Supreme Ruler of the world…that the confusions that are and have been among the nations may be overruled by the promoting and speedily bringing in the holy and happy period when the kingdoms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ may be everywhere established, and the people willingly bow to the scepter of Him who is the Prince of Peace.”

Elias Boudinot, President of Congress during the American Revolution, encouraged the Congress by saying, “Let us enter on this important business under the idea that we are Christians on whom the eyes of the world are not turned…[L]et us earnestly call and beseech Him, for Christ’s sake, to preside in our councils…We can only depend on the all powerful influence of the Spirit of God, Whose Divine aid and assistance it becomes us as a Christian people most devoutly to implore. Therefore, I move that some minister of the Gospel be requested to attend this Congress every morning…in order to open the meeting with prayer.”

These men clearly demonstrated the knowledge of how the scriptures define Jesus Christ.

Jesus was born a king,“Therefore Pilate said to Him, “So You are a king?”. Jesus answered, “You say correctly that I am a king. For this purpose I have been born, and for this I have come into the world: to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to My voice.” John 18:37

Jesus rode into Jerusalem and was instantly recognized as king, they “took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began to shout, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel.” John 12:13.

Jesus was worshipped as a king, “He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords,”. 1 Timothy 6:15

Lastly, Jesus will return as a conquering king, “These will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them because He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are the called and chosen and faithful.” Revelation 17:14. “And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.” Revelation 19:16

We are fast approaching the 250thanniversary of the birth of the New Jerusalem. There are those in positions of power that want you to be ashamed of your American heritage. They don’t want you to know who you are and where you came from. They want to call you names and make you afraid to proclaim that Christ is our King.

Kind of sounds like they are taking a page right out of King George’s book, doesn’t it?

Now is the time to be proud of who we are and to rejoice in being blessed to have been born as Americans and shouting without shame, “No King but King Jesus!”

Thankfully, neither of those apply to Ted Cruz.
