Olive Garden worker dies by horrific deep fryer 'suicide' in front of traumatized colleagues

An Olive Garden worker died after he dived headfirst into a deep fryer in an alleged suicide attempt during service, police said.

 

The unidentified man stripped inside the kitchen of the Williamsport, Pennsylvania, restaurant last Friday afternoon before plunging into the vat of hot oil.

 

According to a 911 call uncovered by The Smoking Gun, officers were called to the chain shortly after 4pm.

 

A dispatcher told responding officers: 'Burn victim at the Olive Garden. I don't have a lot of details, people screaming, some kind of a burn victim.'

 

In another call uncovered by the outlet, the operator told officers: 'Male victim went headfirst into the fryers.'

 

After the first ambulance arrived on the scene, another unit was called to the restaurant to treat a female worker for minor burns. The man was rushed to a nearby hospital but died from his injuries.

 

According to the outlet, she was injured after joining a group of others, including at least one patron, in trying to stop the man.

 

A spokesman for the Pennsylvania State Police told the outlet that the incident was a suicide attempt.

 

They added: 'Out of respect for the individual and their family, we do not release information.'
