- She had never before seen her boyfriend at his art. Sure, she knew he painted as a combination hobby and side hustle when he wasn't fixing cars, but she had never actually seen him work on a painting before, not since their romance had bloomed four months ago. As she sat on a chair in a corner of his studio, she focused on the paintbrush making its long strokes. He was painting someone's portrait, using a set of photographs the subject had supplied. As she continued to observe, she thought how she'd never realized the length of time it took to paint something truly good. He was painting an ear and it took him three hours. When the ear was apparently finished to her boyfriend's satisfaction, he set down his brush and turned from his easel toward her.
"Thank you for sharing this with me," she said with sincere gratitude.
