CHEMICAL INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION OF CANADA OUTLINES NEXT STEPS TO ENHANCE INVESTMENT AND INNOVATION FOLLOWING BUDGET 2025

CIAC Outlines Next Steps to Advance Investment and Innovation Following Budget 2025

 

November 18, 2025 (Ottawa, ON) - Following the release of Budget 2025, the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC) is highlighting how new federal commitments to investment, innovation, and competitiveness can be turned into real growth and sustainability for Canada’s chemistry and plastics sector.

 

Budget 2025 underscores the federal government’s intention to make Canada a more competitive place to invest and build major projects. Rather than relying solely on new regulations, the budget places stronger emphasis on tools that help projects move forward, such as targeted incentives, support for innovation, and clearer pathways for approvals. Together, these measures create conditions that can help Canadian industries expand, decarbonize, and compete globally.

 

“The commitments outlined in Budget 2025 make it clear that attracting investment and supporting innovation must be at the heart of Canada’s economic and climate strategy,” said Greg Moffatt, President and CEO of the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada. “Our sector is prepared to work with government to ensure these commitments lead to real progress.”

 

Chemistry and plastics contribute more than $110 billion to Canada’s economy each year and support over 190,000 direct jobs. CIAC members provide the materials and technologies that make clean energy, advanced manufacturing, critical minerals development, and modern infrastructure possible. By building on the measures introduced in Budget 2025, Canada can enhance its global competitiveness and lead in sustainable, low-carbon manufacturing.

 

“Chemistry and plastics are at the centre of Canada’s clean economy,” added Moffatt. “The commitments made in Budget 2025, if implemented effectively, can help attract new investment, reduce emissions, and create long-term opportunities for Canadians.”

 

CIAC remains committed to working with the federal government to ensure that the measures introduced in Budget 2025 deliver meaningful progress for Canada’s economy, environment, and workforce.
