ANOTHER DAY ANOTHER TIME
A variety of musicians from many different genres get together at New York's Town Hall on September 29, 2013 to perform folk songs included in and related to the recent movie about lesser-known folk singer Luen Davis.
All the performers, from The Punch Brothers to Patti Smith to Jack White do great renditions of the songs presented herein. The film starts off slow at first but soon develops a real campfire, jam session feel.
Many of these songs I had never heard before. Others I had heard with different verses but none of the verses played by these artists.
The only major complaint I have is they sing "Let The Circle Be Unbroken" as the second song. Any good folky knows you're supposed to leave that song till the end of the night.
Well worth checking out for a look at folk music or for just having a good time.

BAGGAGE CLAIM
Local Christian theatre group put on a good performance tonight of their latest production, "Baggage Claim."
This musical is a modern-day parable of a family taking a New Year's vacation.
Gillian Folley turned in a good performance as Irene, the leading lady. The other actors also did an excellent job.
Overall, it was a wonderful play. However, the plot did where a bit thin in the middle portion. Some further explanation of some points regarding the parable aspect would have been helpful as well. Still, this was a play worth seeing.

NO FEAR ALL FAITH
Since the time I was born I have had an issue with one of my heart valves. There has been a flap of skin that has covered it only slightly, however the result is havoc when it comes to cold season. I often make the morbid joke that when most people get colds in their chests I get bronchitis.
Sadly this glib joke has been far more than truthful in the last couple of years. I have had four rounds of the chest infection, and as a caution am being looked at by specialists who are specifically trained in this area.
People ask me all the time if I am scared at all, and at first I would get a little upset, but then I remember something I had seen a couple of years back. Simple words to live by, "no fear all faith.`
It seems simple enough, just fall back, and allow God to catch you.

LOOKING BACK-FEBRUARY/MARCH 2013
Based on notes to myself.
Coming back from Ablaze full of the Spirit.
Went to McDonald's the next day with a couple of fellow Christian friends. We joked about the Pope resigning and how our God never has to do that. Had a good time cruising around afterwords and helping out a young couple down by the lake whose car had broken down. Boys being boys, even though we were 60, 51 and 29 respectively.
Went to Kingston with my mom to fill out the paperwork for my new computer. It was pleasant driving through the places we used to drive through when we lived on the farm. Lots of interesting people to see in Kingston as well; kids taking the city bus home from school, people talking with each other about their lives. We ate KFC at the food court at the Kaderawke Town Centre.
Also got to work the radio on the trip and we listened to CFRC. That's where I heard about the death of Hugo Chavez.
Went to visit my friend the next morning and went to prayer meeting at our church that night.
Spent my nights back then watching movies my friend had lent me.
The tragic death of someone in our circle of believers occurred in late March.

MATILDA ZIEGLER MAGAZINE SUSPENDS PUBLICATION
In the most recent (January 6) issue of the online Matilda Ziegler Magazine for the Blind, editor Ren Brighton announced the periodical would be suspending publication.
First, let me hasten to say the Matilda Ziegler Magazine for the Blind stopped publishing a few years ago. The online version which I have mentioned on this blog before is entirely different from the previous braille incarnation.
Honestly, I felt the online magazine had gone downhill in the past few months. When it first started in January 2010, it contained lots of impowering and informative articles. Now most of it's content seems to amount to blind people complaining about things.
Back when the online magazine first started, each feature writer had a clear subject they wrote about. Karen was supposed to write about entertainment, John was supposed to write about technology, etc. Now you never know what most of the articles will be about.
Additionally, some of the content of the magazine is just plain boring. I don't care about the time Karen Crowder was snowed in or the third Christmas she and her late husband spent together or whatever.
Bob Branco is the Andy Rooney of the magazine; he'll complain about anything.
Also, I notice spelling mistakes in the articles from time to time. If my speech software can pick up on these errors, why couldn't the software of the writers? As well, some of the writers should try giving their articles a beginning, a middle and an end. That would improve their writing immensely.
A magazine has to have something one can take away, an article you can get behind or that makes you angry, ideally at least one or two articles you can walk away from thinking, "I didn't know that." I have to say I really haven't been getting that feeling from this online publication lately.

A CRY FOR HELP
Recently a young girl said that if Justin Bieber retired from singing she would retire from life. Was that innocent or a cry for help? I, and I am sure that you with children know, that the world is media obsessed. I do believe that this threat is a definite cry for help.
Is he a good roll model to base ones life on? No. A couple of years back he refused to see some children in Israel, and several months was seen in a popular magazine sporting a Hitler mustache. Justin then attempted to redeem himself by visiting the Anne Frank museum, but promoted himself in the guest book.
I ask you out there. Is he worth it? He also says he is a Christian, but getting stoned and rocking Hitler stache doesn't seem overly Godly.
What should those poor parents of that child do? Talk with her, get her some help, pray, and most of all try to promote people making an actual difference in this world.
