Woman Asks Kids Running Around Theater, Hitting the Movie Screen to Sit Down, Then Gets Yelled at by Their Mom

A woman turned to Reddit to ask if she was in the wrong for "getting a toddler told off" while at the movies with her daughter.

In a post on Reddit, the woman explained that she recently brought her 5-year-old daughter to a 5 p.m. showing of a popular children's movie.

She noted that the theater was "full and busy," which was a big deal to the mother-daughter duo since they "are both autistic and generally struggle with chatter as we watch." While she acknowledged that noise is "to be expected in a cinema full of children,” she wasn't prepared for what was to come.

The woman said that the movie was going well until about an hour in, when two young kids, around 3 or 4 years old, started "leaping" down the aisles.

"This proceeds maybe 5 times with lots if angrys tuts and huffs from other familys," she wrote. "My daughter also pointed out they was ruining the movie for her."

The woman saw several other moms "say something" to the kids, so when the little ones passed the poster, she also "politely" asked if they could go find their seats.

However, they didn't listen and instead "jumped down to the front of the cinema."

"I then notice the woman from the front few rows get up and sit on the bottom step and watch the boys as they run around in a circle and hit the cinema screen and shout," she wrote.

It was then that the poster decided to "calmly get up and run out and get an attendant," who then "asked the parents to seat the children."

However, when the mom came and finally fetched her kids, she yelled at the poster for getting an employee involved, insisting that they are “just babies.”

The poster "didn't retaliate" since she didn't want to cause a scene, which she felt wouldn't be "fair to all the other children and parents watching." Still, she felt justified in her actions, noting that every other parent in there "has babies," but none of them were "running around screaming."

She also noted that, if the mom wanted to let her kids run around, she should have taken them to an earlier viewing specifically catered to young kids — not a 5 p.m. showing.

“She wrestled her child into his seat for the last portion of the movie and I didn't see them as I left no other parent or family said anything," she wrote, adding, "so it made me think even though they were all irritated did they ignore it because they were babies?"

"I know as parents we all dread the first cinema trip in case our children are silly,” the woman ended, asking for advice.

People in the comments agreed with the woman, noting that she "handled this more than reasonably."

“The children's parents are irresponsible for allowing this behavior in the theater. You did the right thing by getting an attendant," one person wrote.

"They are most certainly not babies and this is not a playground. Also babies shouldn't be in a cinema in any event if they are interrupting others. What a ridiculous response," another added. "If they are unable to watch the film without interrupting others (especially like this, walking around, screaming, hitting the screen??) they should not be in the cinema."
