There are four things that jumped out at me while reading this chapter.
First, the constant emphasis on the Father. Ultimately, Christianity is not all about Jesus: it's all about the Father and, through Jesus and his sacrifice
on the cross, restoring the relationship we once had with the Creator and ruler of the universe. John 14 6
Although, I might add that since God exists in a trinity and he who has seen Jesus has seen the Father, then it is really all about the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit who guides our lives.
In verse 9, Jesus says he doesn't pray for the world. In verse 20, Jesus says He prays for those in the world who will come to Him. Contrary to the social
gospel, the Christian faith isn't about making unbelievers better people or simply making the world a better place: it's about unbelievers coming to salvation,
entering into that relationship mentioned above.
In verses 14 and 15, Jesus speaks of the hate and persecution His followers are going to face, going along with the recent prayers for the persecuted church.
In verse 17, Jesus says "Thy word is truth." In a day and age when it can be hard to know or agree on truth, God's Word is the ultimate truth and must
be the standard by which we judge whether other things we hear are true.
