PROVERBS 25

Proverbs 25

v1: Do we only have a fraction of Solomon's proverbs, or is it that we have all of his proverbs and they count as way more than there first appears to be because the can be correctly interpreted a few different ways?

v2-3: God wants us to look for meaning in the hard texts and to seek out the deep things of Him, really chewing on the meat as it says in Hebrews. Sadly, so many Christians seem only to want milk and baby talk.

v4-5: As we go through our lives, God continually makes us into the people we should be, refining us like a refiner's fire as it says in the New Testament. The sinful and incorrect ways we learned from the world before we got saved are melted away. Similarly, when Jesus returns, the wicked will be destroyed and removed from the Earth.

v6-7: This passage reminds me of Jesus' words about not seeking the best seat at a party.

v8: We should always think and prayerfully consider before a major undertaking.

v9-10 If you've got a problem with somebody, speak to them directly about it: don't gossip about it behind their back.

v14: This verse reminds me of what Jude said about false Christians.

v15: You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinigar.

v16: Too much of anything is not good.

v19: Unreliable people are a pain in the mouth and a pain in the foot.

v20: There are times when we need to mourn with those who mourn or sit in silent solidarity with those who are going through hard times as Job's friends did before they started speaking and screwing everything up as opposed to trying to cheer someone up.

v21-22: This reminds me of Jesus' instructions about turning the other cheek, going the extra mile and giving your tunic in the Sermon on the Mount. Hopefully, if we do this, our enemy will realize what a jerk he's been and apologize.

v24: A repetition of an earlier proverb.

v25: It's true! When I hear about soemthing good that happened some place far away, I can't believe how good it makes me feel.

v27: Christians should feel a healthy sense of accomplishment but we have to watch it doesn't cross the line into pride and self-centredness.

v28: If you don't watch your attitude, your life will be in ruins.
