Most years I don't make resolutions, feeling them pointless, and breakable. This time however, as 2013 was about to roll over and 2014 showed its face I actually made two rolled in to one. I made a plan to put Christ and family first.

Kiss Me: This is actually quite a good song. I like the fact it isn't all sexual. Basically, it seems to be about a boy and a girl just being together, making out a bit, of course, but enjoying each other's company and enjoying each other sexually without doing too much.

I have heard the album "Pieces of You." I was not impressed with it.

LOVE'S SIMPLEST ELEMENT
The other day I talked a little bit about joy, today's focus is on another fruit of the spirit. That delicious fruit on the plate is love. That thing you get from your family, spouse, friends, and that thing that one must spread to the masses.
There is an element of love that is just as essential as water and food. Do you know what that is? It's a proper hug.
Why am I bringing this up? Because it's something of great importance. It's a small gesture, but it can warm hearts, soothe sadness, and fill your heart with sunshine.
How does one perform this simple element of love? First one must stretch out their arms, fold the saddened party inside, and add some reassurance and encouragement.

THE MOTHER OF ALL BABY BOOKS
Checkups: Just for the sake of thinking outside the box, are checkups for your baby really necissary? If something goes wrong with your little one, won't you notice it?
Vaccinations: Vaccinations are not recommended because of their numerous harmful side effects.
Also, it does not make sense to inject someone with a virus in order to improve their health. The body seeks to be healthy and to be kept away from viruses.
Car Seat Safety: Are car seats really necissary in all circumstances? Don't get me wrong, I think they are a very good idea for travel on highways, particularly because we've got all these immigrants coming over now who apparently don't have things like speed limits or traffic safety rules in their native countries. However, if you are just driving around town, are car seats really necissary? I especially question their use with older children. In Ontario, the laws are such that some nine year olds could be required to be in car seats.
Personally, I think the premier who put those most recent car seat laws in place had a fetish (either sexual or nonsexual) for older kids in car seats. This is just speculation on my part.
The Working Parents' Survival Guide: I look forward to the day when the economic situation will be such that mothers won't be forced to work outside the home and will indeed desire to be at home with their children.

Did you know that the word joy is mentioned over 800 times in the Bible? Do you know people who seem not only to reach for it, but encourage people to do the same? Perhaps you might be one of those people.
What is joy? It is defined as elation, happiness, and all around good feelings. People who have joy as a top priority live longer, are more pleasant to be around, and tend to bring sunshine to even the darkest days.

FOR HER PLEASURE
It's no secret that throughout church history there has been a lot of screwed up teaching regarding sex.
Today, in some church circles, there seems to be this erronious teaching that women don't like or particularly care for sex. There's a perception that sex is only a male physical need.
Of course, many people-men and women will testify to the aforementioned eroniousness of this perception.
Thankfully, there is beginning to be some more correct teaching on this subject in Christian circles through means such as blogs and other online media.
The physical enjoyment of sex goes deeper even than a lot of what is currently being taught about this subject. In fact, it goes right back to Creation itself.
The clitoris is the only body part found in either the male or female that has the sole purpose of sexual pleasure. Thus we clearly see God designed women to physically enjoy the sexual act.
Next time you hear some prudish woman say that a woman should give her man sex because "it takes so little time and makes them so happy", remember the man wasn't the one on whom God bestowed an exclusive device for sexual feelings..

GOD AT WORK
I have in a previous posting mentioned about God's sense of humor, love, and kindness. Now I am going to talk for a second about how he places people in our lives to make things interesting, calm, or to soothe our aching hearts.
A while back I went to my eye specialist, and she suggested the possibility of a new chornia to help my sight improve. When I was quite small the possibility was ruled flat out, but I figured that the passage of three decades would have advanced techniques and the thing I was seeking sat on the edge of occurring.
On a cloudy day in mid September I, armed with my trust in Jesus went off to the surgeon's office. Unfortunately he said the same thing the specialist I had as a girl said. He also suggested for me to return, and see what had advanced in a year.
So what can we gleam from this? God puts people in our lives for particular reasons, some to drive us places, others to give us hope of miracles around the bend.

ANOTHER DAY ANOTHER TIME
A variety of musicians from many different genres get together at New York's Town Hall on September 29, 2013 to perform folk songs included in and related to the recent movie about lesser-known folk singer Luen Davis.
All the performers, from The Punch Brothers to Patti Smith to Jack White do great renditions of the songs presented herein. The film starts off slow at first but soon develops a real campfire, jam session feel.
Many of these songs I had never heard before. Others I had heard with different verses but none of the verses played by these artists.
The only major complaint I have is they sing "Let The Circle Be Unbroken" as the second song. Any good folky knows you're supposed to leave that song till the end of the night.
Well worth checking out for a look at folk music or for just having a good time.

BAGGAGE CLAIM
Local Christian theatre group put on a good performance tonight of their latest production, "Baggage Claim."
This musical is a modern-day parable of a family taking a New Year's vacation.
Gillian Folley turned in a good performance as Irene, the leading lady. The other actors also did an excellent job.
Overall, it was a wonderful play. However, the plot did where a bit thin in the middle portion. Some further explanation of some points regarding the parable aspect would have been helpful as well. Still, this was a play worth seeing.

NO FEAR ALL FAITH
Since the time I was born I have had an issue with one of my heart valves. There has been a flap of skin that has covered it only slightly, however the result is havoc when it comes to cold season. I often make the morbid joke that when most people get colds in their chests I get bronchitis.
Sadly this glib joke has been far more than truthful in the last couple of years. I have had four rounds of the chest infection, and as a caution am being looked at by specialists who are specifically trained in this area.
People ask me all the time if I am scared at all, and at first I would get a little upset, but then I remember something I had seen a couple of years back. Simple words to live by, "no fear all faith.`
It seems simple enough, just fall back, and allow God to catch you.

LOOKING BACK-FEBRUARY/MARCH 2013
Based on notes to myself.
Coming back from Ablaze full of the Spirit.
Went to McDonald's the next day with a couple of fellow Christian friends. We joked about the Pope resigning and how our God never has to do that. Had a good time cruising around afterwords and helping out a young couple down by the lake whose car had broken down. Boys being boys, even though we were 60, 51 and 29 respectively.
Went to Kingston with my mom to fill out the paperwork for my new computer. It was pleasant driving through the places we used to drive through when we lived on the farm. Lots of interesting people to see in Kingston as well; kids taking the city bus home from school, people talking with each other about their lives. We ate KFC at the food court at the Kaderawke Town Centre.
Also got to work the radio on the trip and we listened to CFRC. That's where I heard about the death of Hugo Chavez.
Went to visit my friend the next morning and went to prayer meeting at our church that night.
Spent my nights back then watching movies my friend had lent me.
The tragic death of someone in our circle of believers occurred in late March.

MATILDA ZIEGLER MAGAZINE SUSPENDS PUBLICATION
In the most recent (January 6) issue of the online Matilda Ziegler Magazine for the Blind, editor Ren Brighton announced the periodical would be suspending publication.
First, let me hasten to say the Matilda Ziegler Magazine for the Blind stopped publishing a few years ago. The online version which I have mentioned on this blog before is entirely different from the previous braille incarnation.
Honestly, I felt the online magazine had gone downhill in the past few months. When it first started in January 2010, it contained lots of impowering and informative articles. Now most of it's content seems to amount to blind people complaining about things.
Back when the online magazine first started, each feature writer had a clear subject they wrote about. Karen was supposed to write about entertainment, John was supposed to write about technology, etc. Now you never know what most of the articles will be about.
Additionally, some of the content of the magazine is just plain boring. I don't care about the time Karen Crowder was snowed in or the third Christmas she and her late husband spent together or whatever.
Bob Branco is the Andy Rooney of the magazine; he'll complain about anything.
Also, I notice spelling mistakes in the articles from time to time. If my speech software can pick up on these errors, why couldn't the software of the writers? As well, some of the writers should try giving their articles a beginning, a middle and an end. That would improve their writing immensely.
A magazine has to have something one can take away, an article you can get behind or that makes you angry, ideally at least one or two articles you can walk away from thinking, "I didn't know that." I have to say I really haven't been getting that feeling from this online publication lately.

A CRY FOR HELP
Recently a young girl said that if Justin Bieber retired from singing she would retire from life. Was that innocent or a cry for help? I, and I am sure that you with children know, that the world is media obsessed. I do believe that this threat is a definite cry for help.
Is he a good roll model to base ones life on? No. A couple of years back he refused to see some children in Israel, and several months was seen in a popular magazine sporting a Hitler mustache. Justin then attempted to redeem himself by visiting the Anne Frank museum, but promoted himself in the guest book.
I ask you out there. Is he worth it? He also says he is a Christian, but getting stoned and rocking Hitler stache doesn't seem overly Godly.
What should those poor parents of that child do? Talk with her, get her some help, pray, and most of all try to promote people making an actual difference in this world.

HOW TO GROW UP-DEATH
When we die, it is not the end for us.
For those who died in a proper relationship with Jesus Christ, they will be in Heaven. The Bible says "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." If we are also followers of Jesus, we can be sure we will see our loved ones in Heaven. (Note: If you're a Christian just because you want to see dead friends or relatives in Heaven then God will not regard that as a proper relationship with Him.)
For the rest of humankind who died without knowing the Lord, they will wind up in Hell. Though this may seem cruel and unfair, you have to remember that many people got the chance in their lifetime to hear about what Jesus did on the cross. They could have believed the Gospel and had a relationship with Jesus, but they chose not to do so.
For people who have never physically heard the Gospel, the Bible says in the Book of Romans that God is visible in the Creation or nature that exists around us. Even if someone has never heard the Gospel, if they are seeking a relationship with the true God, they will find Him.

HOW TO GROW UP-DEPRESSION AND SUICIDE
Everybody gets sad or upset about things. We all have things that bother us.
Our emotions are perfectly valid. The Book of Psalms in the Bible bears this out.
However, if you are truly depressed, anti-depressants are not the answer. The Bible calls those types of things witchcraft. The Greek word for witchcraft is the same word from which we get words like pharmacy. Also, do not go to a psychiatrist as such people also fall into this witchcraft category.
Instead, seek a proper relationship with Jesus Christ. (See the Bible, the Book of Acts, Chapter 2, Verse 38.) True happiness can only be found in a proper relationship with our Creator and Saviour.
If you're depression stems from a traumatic event, seek counselling from a trusted pastor or Christian counsellor. Also, go to God directly for help. God repeatedly tells us in the Bible that He wants human beings to pray to Him. We are told in the Bible to cast all our cares upon the Lord.
Suicide is never the answer to depression. Suicide is self-murder and if you commit it you will end up in Hell. When we face problems like being severely depressed, we can either look to God to deliver us and save us, or we can listen to the devil, the one who tells us to commit suicide. Self-esteem can only come if we do two things.
First of all, we have to use the talents and abilities God has given us. It will do you no good to sit in your room and tell yourself, "I'm a caring person." You will know if you're actually a caring person if you do things to care for others.
Similarly, it will do you no good to practice a musical instrument in your room and tell yourself you're a good musician. The only true way you'll know you're a good musician is if you play with other people.
The second thing needed to build self-esteem is to have a proper relationship with Jesus Christ. To find out how to do this, look in the Bible at the Book of Acts, Chapter 2, Verse 38.
When we realize that Jesus is everything, we will realize we are nothing. The Bible says that in God "we live and move and have our being." If it weren't for God, human beings would literally be unable to do anything.
Once we have a proper relationship with Jesus Christ, we need to start "esteeming others as better than ourselves" as the Bible says and our Saviour Jesus Christ did when he lived here on Earth. THE MOTHER OF ALL BABY BOOKS
I really would not recommend mothers take antidepressants for postpartum depression. If there are specific causes such as circumstances for the depression, it is best to deal with those. Postpartum depression can also be prevented by eating the placenta.
There are resources online as well as dvds that teach what a baby's specific cries mean. There is also a dvd that teaches how to tell what a baby needs before she cries by listening to the sounds she makes.
Colic can be cured or at least eased with massage.
Fluoride is a really terrible substance that can cause all kinds of harm to people, especially of course babies. There are studies showing that, contrary to strengthening teeth, fluoride actually breaks down teeth.
