I have mixed feelings about the author Stephen Coontz.
The first book of his I read was his nonfiction work "War In The Air." The introduction to that book is one of the finest pieces of writing I think I've ever read.
Next, I read "Fortunes Of War." It seemed pretty jingoistic, a bunch of late nineties propaganda from when the nationalist scare was on. Ooooh, Japanese nationalists are going to get us!
Right now I'm reading "The Intruders." It has some good writing as well, but the plot seems to be moving awfully slow.
