Found the list of 1001 books you must read before you die online and noticed it is mostly a list of novels. A true list of 1001 books to be read before you die would of course include Shakespeare, Chaucer, Milton, Beyowolfe, etc. I think a true list of that nature should also include a good amount of nonfiction, such as "Baby And Child Care" by Dr. Spock, "The Joy Of Cooking", Plato, Socrates, and other works that would showcase the books that have influenced people's thinking and actions over the past decades and millennia. Of course any list of books to be read before you die must include the Bible.

I've also thought about other 1001 lists that could be compiled.

What about 1001 (or however many notable ones there are) Christian Books You Must Read Before You Die? It would include books like "Pilgrim's Progress", the "Left Behind" series and maybe also crackpot books about whacky ideas or false prophecies such as "88 Reasons Why The Rapture Is In 1988."

"1001 Comedy Recordings You Must Hear Before You Die" could include notable comedy albums, but also comedy recordings from the early days of the phonograph.

If the goal of these books is to list the things one should do before one dies, why not combine "1001 Gardens" "1001 Buildings" "1001 Golf Holes", and "1001 Historic Sites" into one book listing 1001 travel-related things?
