THINGS IN THE NEWS

In Springfield, Illinois recently, part of the statue of Abraham Lincoln was broken off. The sword which was in the statue's hand is believed to have been taken by copper thieves. You know the economy is bad when stuff like this starts happening.

Police in Rio recently started cleaning up one of that city's worst favellas in preparation for the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics. Several key members of drug gangs were arrested in the crack down. Sure, now that all kinds of important people are coming to Brazil, something is finally being done about these problems that have existed in epidemic proportions for years.

Toronto police yesterday siezed a cache of weapons at a house, including 100 assault weapons disguised as cell phones. You wouldn't want to get the two things mixed up.
